All things Court of Protection for social care providers

This practical webinar, led by Hempsons legal specialist Helen Claridge, supports social care providers to strengthen their understanding of the Court of Protection and manage complex legal and safeguarding situations with confidence.

The session explores when providers may become involved in Court of Protection proceedings, the risks of getting it wrong, current pressures within the DoLS system, and recent case law. Practical guidance will also be shared to support lawful, person-centred decision-making around capacity, best interests and restrictions on liberty.

Suitable for care home managers, senior leaders and clinicians.

Safeguarding Adults Symposium

This free, in-person safeguarding symposium is for adult social care providers across Sussex. The event will explore how safeguarding activity is changing over time, emerging and persistent risks, and how trend data can inform resource planning, risk focus, training needs and preventative action.

The day will also reflect on practice developments since the September 2024 conference, explore updates to the Care Act, and share case studies highlighting effective safeguarding practice across services.

Care provider workshops: Making the Most of Your Sponsorship

These half-day workshops are for adult social care providers in East Sussex and Brighton & Hove who sponsor internationally recruited staff under the UK Skilled Worker visa route.

The practical, in-person sessions will offer clear, accessible guidance to help providers manage sponsorship responsibilities with confidence and reduce compliance risk. They will cover:

  • Meeting sponsorship compliance duties
  • Reducing the risk of licence suspension or revocation
  • Applying supplementary working rules correctly
  • Identifying and addressing early compliance risks
  • Strengthening ethical sponsorship practices and workforce stability

East Sussex Wellbeing at Work is a free workplace accreditation programme that supports employers to take a structured, practical approach to staff wellbeing. It offers a clear framework alongside free training, resources and signposting to help organisations strengthen wellbeing in sustainable, manageable ways.

The scheme is free, flexible and designed to work at your pace, making it accessible for a wide range of organisations, including care services across East Sussex.

SESCA Provider Briefing Webinar: “Earned Settlement” Consultation

This webinar will be hosted by the South East Social Care Alliance on Thursday 22nd January 2026 between 3:15pm – 4:15pm. It will explain the Government’s proposed Earned Settlement reforms, what they could mean for adult social care providers and migrant care workers, and how to respond before the consultation closes on 12th February 2026.

New Skills Bootcamps Information Service for West Sussex businesses

West Sussex County Council, working with the Sussex Council of Training Providers, has launched a new Skills Bootcamps Information Service to help local employers access targeted training and recruitment support.

Skills Bootcamps are short, flexible training courses designed with employers to address real workforce needs. Courses typically run for a minimum of 60 hours over up to 16 weeks and are intended to support both recruitment and workforce development. They can help employers to:

  • Recruit job-ready candidates with sector-specific skills
  • Upskill existing staff to address skills gaps
  • Reduce recruitment risk by training people for real roles
  • Access low-cost training, with up to 90% government funding

Each course is developed in partnership with industry and reflects real-world working practices, with a focus on progression into employment or further development.
