Promoting learning and development in your team

This course is for managers/supervisors in adult social care services that are required to induct new staff and would like to learn more about inducting new staff effectively.  This course is for those who are currently supervising or new to supervising and would like to know more about how supervision works in practice.

This week we are highlighting how managers can create a culture of learning in services by encouraging their staff to engage in relevant development opportunities, not just at induction but throughout, enabling their team to develop and advance in their careers. These opportunities can be in core skills
development which will support staff at work and in everyday life, as well as specialist care training to promote safe and enabling care practice.

As an employer or manager, you need to understand the learning and development needs of your individual workers, teams and the service.

This guidance outlines the Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS) for the adult social care workforce offered by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) for financial year 2024 to 2025. This guidance also contains information on eligibility and how to claim, including information on how adult social care (ASC) employers can sign up to express interest in the new fund and be invited to use the new online digital claims service.

ShiftWorks is a new, low-cost online learning platform developed for the health and care workforce by The King’s Fund. The current courses on offer focus on management, leadership and organisational topics such as ‘managing and leading with kindness and compassion’. You can become a member with a flexible annual subscription of £30 (per learner per year), and there is also the option to sign up as an organisation.
