Leading and managing in social care

A registered manager in adult social care requires a range of management and leadership skills, knowledge and qualities that can be utilised at different times and to deal with different situations.

A registered manager should have a strong awareness of the social care landscape at both a local and national level, understand the vision of their organisation and promote the values that the staff team use as a reference point when caring for the people in their service.

While there is currently no mandatory management training framework for registered managers, Skills for Care have identified 11 Manager Induction Standards (MIS)which set out the fundamental skills and knowledge required by a new registered manager, underpinned by the values and ethics intrinsic to social care.
