Compassionate Leadership Training for Managers and Leaders

Compassionate leadership is associated with enhanced learning and innovation, lower staff stress, and improved patient care. Drawing on the research of Professor Michael West and other experts, this face-to-face training programme is for health and social care leaders who are looking to cultivate compassion for themselves and the people they lead.

Course format:
This course consists of six weekly sessions, each lasting two hours, along with several optional two-hour online consolidation sessions designed to reinforce your practice and learning. The curriculum integrates mindfulness and compassion practices during each session, fostering a space for reflection and discussion. Participants are also encouraged to engage in mindfulness and compassion exercises at home, aimed at nurturing compassion for themselves and the individuals they lead and collaborate with.

Course dates:
This course runs on Thursdays from 30th January 2025 – 13th March 2025 between 15:00pm – 17:00pm. There is no session on 20th February 2025.

Venue: East Brighton Community Mental Health Centre, Pankhurst Avenue, Brighton
Cost: £200
Suitable for: Anyone in a leadership or management role in a health and social care.

Applications open for the ‘Digital leadership programme’!

Applications are open for the next ‘Digital leadership programme’ with Skills for care & the National Care Forum. The course consists of four workshops on Thursdays 19th September, 26th September, 3rd October & 10th October 2024.

Course description:
‘This learning programme will support both new and experienced managers to have the underpinning skills, knowledge and models of digital leadership that can be practically applied when implementing technology in a care service and promote best practice. It will improve confidence in identifying how digital technology supports the delivery of quality care and will enable managers to identify technology in the market, understand the barriers to technology adoption and how an organisation may choose to address them.’

Mary Seacole Sussex Leadership Programme applications open

Date: Monday 24th June 2024 (welcome meeting) – Monday 13th January 2025
Course length: Six-month-long programme – Includes approx. 8-10 hours of self-study each week
Delivery mode: Online
Cost: £150 per participant which must be funded by the participants department/organisation.
Suitable for: First time managers in health or social care who lead a team and are keen to develop their leadership behaviours and skills and connect with colleagues across the Sussex wide system.
Qualification: NHS Leadership Academy Award in Health and Care Leadership.

Course description:
‘The programme will prepare you for the demands of leadership in the healthcare system today – and into the future. It will give you the theoretical knowledge and practical understanding needed to deliver inspiring leadership. During the programme, you’ll cover eight units of study on leadership fundamentals along with four further units that relate to core management skills.’
