St Wilfrid’s Hospice has just released an extra funded date for their Intermediate Communication Skills course. This one day online course is suitable for generalist palliative care staff and new staff working in health and social care settings. It is a useful background to empower you with the skills for any conversation in palliative and end of life care including ReSPECT.
Applications are open for a unique opportunity to help registered health and care professionals across Kent, Surrey and Sussex develop their research skills and confidence.
📌 Funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and hosted by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the programme will run for three years, supporting 23 interns annually with awards of up to £10,000 each.

St Wilfrid’s Hospice Education Team is launching a new, discussion-based workshop exploring the unique experiences and needs of LGBTQ+ people, including trans and gender-diverse individuals, when approaching the end of life. The course is open to all health and social care professionals.
Drawing on Hospice UK’s I Just Want to Be Me report (2023), the Learning Framework for LGBTQ+ Care in Later Life (2023), and other evidence-based guidance, this workshop will help you:
Understand the barriers faced by LGBTQ+ communities at the end of life
Explore practical ways to provide inclusive, affirming, and compassionate care
Strengthen person-centred practice across health and social care settings
Cost:
Fully funded for all Sussex employees in health and social care (via NHS Sussex)
£50 for participants outside Sussex (includes all course materials)
Resilience-based Clinical Supervision (RBCS) provides a safe, supportive space for participants to explore challenges, reflect on practice, and enhance their well-being—essential when caring for vulnerable people. This fully funded programme is for nurses and nurse associates in social care across England, supported by NHS England.
Programme details:
14-hour total commitment (includes pre-work, group sessions, reflection, and evaluation).
Delivered online in small groups (max 8 participants).
Active participation required—camera, microphone, and a quiet space needed.
Tresacare and SESCA are collaborating to offer a free wellbeing programme designed to support international care workers in the South East. The programme will run for 3 months from mid-January 2025 and will be held online via Zoom.

You can choose to apply for the fully funded NIHR INSIGHT Programme with the University of Chichester. The start date for the programme will be September 2024 (TBC). Applications close mid August.

The South Coast INSIGHT Programme (SCIP), funded by NIHR, is a an opportunity for early career health and social care professionals to undertake fully funded Masters in Research, inclusive of UKRI stipend. Eligible applicants will be early career nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, social workers and public health professionals.
There are 30 places available for a 2024/25 start within the South Central region, to be hosted by the University of Southampton, Oxford Brookes University, University of Winchester, University of Portsmouth and Southampton Solent University.
Booking is now open for SESCA’s next round of training for newly arrived overseas care workers. The training is delivered online via live tutor-led group sessions and is available to CQC-registered adult social care providers operating in the South East.
