Poor oral health is associated with negative health outcomes such as malnutrition and has even been shown to increase the risk of acquiring aspiration pneumonia in residential care settings. In this newsletter, we’ll explore best practices, share valuable tips, and highlight resources designed to help you and your team support the oral health needs of those in your care.
Professional Care Workers’ Week (PCWW) 2024 is a week long celebration of the contributions of care workers across the UK. The event runs from 16th – 20th September 2024 and will feature a series of online webinars and information sessions hosted by leading figures in Adult Social Care.

These free monthly sessions are delivered virtually by the Sussex Community NHS Foundation trust Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH) team and focus on self-care medications, homely remedy medications and personal care medications/items. The sessions provide an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the Self-Care and Homely Remedies Toolkit and resources will be shared with all participants that attend.

The introduction of the Single Assessment Framework (SAF) in 2023 aimed to streamline and enhance the assessment process with a unified goal of ensuring that those we support receive the highest quality of care. However, ongoing discussions regarding the effectiveness of the SAF may be causing uncertainty among care providers about the current regulatory processes.
While the government is currently reviewing the situation, this newsletter highlights the latest resources and guidance to help providers navigate the SAF with confidence, ensuring that high standards of care are consistently maintained across services.
